Klor-Con (potassium chloride) for Prevention of Hypokalemia "The pills are just too big. I choke almost every time I take them. If they were coated with something to alleviate the chalk-like outside consistency, it might help. I cut them in half using a pill cutter, and that helps somewhat. But I have informed my husband to sue the company when trying to swallow one of these pills if it actually chokes me to death."

For Prevention of Hypokalemia "My doctor started me on 10 mg. After a month, my potassium levels didn't change, so she put me on 20 mg a day. A month later, my levels were the same, so she had me take two 20 mg pills a day. After two weeks, my potassium was normal. She told me to continue with that dosage. The following week, I started getting stomach pains. The pains were mild, but I had it for five days. After reading that stomach pains were one of the more common side effects of the drug, I stopped taking them completely and the pain subsided by the next day. While I'm glad the pills brought my levels up to normal, I have no doubt that my stomach issues were caused by the potassium."

Klor-Con (potassium chloride) for Prevention of Hypokalemia "The pills are too large to swallow, and I almost choked twice. So now I bite the tablet in half. I'm afraid to swallow, and my voice is getting hoarse. I'm thinking of stopping this med. Is there a liquid form available?"

For Hypokalemia "This potassium pill does not dissolve...the white coating does, then the rest is left in the stool. Yes, I have salvaged them from the stool, and they still have the USL 10 number on them (although the white coating is gone, the yellowish pill is quite all there!). WHY? Has no one else complained? Freddie."

Klor-Con (potassium chloride) for Hypokalemia "I use this to prevent muscle cramps so severe that I have thought I would tear muscles loose. I take 2 tablets each day along with 3 x 600 mg calcium citrate with Vitamin D caplets. Sometimes I have to take an additional Klor-Con 20 if I am passing a lot of urine. I take Lasix 40 mg a day, I was taking 80 mg, and I would get cramps within 6 hours of taking it. I had been using quinine previously, but it was taken off the market."

K-Tab (potassium chloride) for Hypokalemia "I had a really bad reaction with swollen and blisters on hands and feet. Skin peeled off very painfully and went on for over a month. I couldn't breathe or swallow. My boys were scared because I couldn't walk or talk, feeling like I was going to pass out, very dizzy and lightheaded and confused. Other things also, and some reactions are still going on with pain too."

For Prevention of Hypokalemia "I had slight nausea the first day of taking potassium chloride, and the second day I had extreme nausea, almost vomiting (took with lots of food and water both times). I'm scared to take it again. I felt like I was poisoned. 8 mEq once a day."

For Hypokalemia "I am on 5 pills of 10 MEQ pills per day. They are manufactured by Mylan Pharmaceuticals (now part of Viatris). On several occasions, I have caught a pill passing right through me—obviously of no benefit to me. It makes me wonder how many of these pills pass through regularly, undetected. The manufacturer ought to make these pills more digestible."

For Prevention of Hypokalemia "I have Stage 4 Metastasized Colon Cancer and metastatic Breast Cancer. I am awaiting a surgical procedure due to a partially blocked Colon. My Cancer Dr. prescribed this to me in the liquid form. At the Pharmacist's, I asked, 'What are the side effects because I am allergic to many drugs and foods?' His ONLY reply was, 'It doesn't have any side effects except for diarrhea. That's it.' He gave me a giant bottle of hundreds of ounces of this stuff. I could easily die from not knowing, A. how to take this-in liquid form it has got to be diluted. B. taking too much can kill a person. He said none of that. I had to do my own research in order to figure out how to take this. What scares me is I am really allergic to bananas. Also prune juice. I diluted this-drank 2 ml in a full glass of water. Got heaviness. Pain this morning. Had a bowel movement, but my stomach just plain hurts! Scary to think they were going to inject 14 ml directly into my Port! I remain fearful of these Drs."

For Prevention of Hypokalemia "Husband has been taking 240 mEq/day KCL ER tabs per cardiologist. Maintains low normal K levels but has had 1 perforated ulcer/almost died, plus another gastric bleed hospitalization with transfusion. Doctors all say it should not cause this - all the literature shows the ER tabs are hardest on the gastric area. Switched to liquid and/or dissolvable powder and no problems at all. These are way more expensive, so check around for the best deal if you can’t take tablets."

Klor-Con (potassium chloride) for Hypokalemia "Taking Klor-Con for well over a year now for hypokalemia. If you have problems with 20 mEq, the 10 mEq is much smaller, as I prefer, you would just have to alter your dosage. This Rx works great for me. I just spread it out throughout the day with food and water to prevent stomach upset, as I’m on 100 mEq/day. I used to be on 200 mEq/day due to my extreme lows. Definitely helps with retention/edema, headaches, constipation, fatigue, and hypertension."

For Hypokalemia "My cardiologist increased the dosage to two pills a day... and somehow it changed to wax tabs with the same dosage about a few months ago. I developed peeling of skin on my left hand ring finger and could not figure out what it was. Now, it started to spread to the middle finger."

Klor-Con (potassium chloride) for Hypokalemia "I prefer the fizzy tablets to these extremely large and difficult-to-swallow pills. I have chronic hypokalemia and take Klor-Con 20 twice a day. It seems to work okay as once in a while I get a normal potassium level. Usually I'm still hypokalemic, though. It's not as low as before, and I've managed to stay out of the hospital since starting this. I have no side effects. The pills are so difficult to swallow!"

For Prevention of Hypokalemia "I was prescribed the drug 20 MEQ. I am allergic to binders, so I dissolve two pills in a teaspoon of water and hide them in applesauce. Now, I have hives from my collarbone to the soles of my feet, which is due to the binding agent they use. I have been allergic to every form of binding agent, but the effervescent form was okay for four days before I had an allergic reaction. I received a shot of Benadryl while I was in the hospital. It is important that they find a solution to the issue with the binding agents."

For Prevention of Hypokalemia "My potassium tends to go under range. My oncologist has me taking 10 mEq of potassium daily. Brought numbers up into range. My pill is round and has a yellow coating on it. Easier to take than the non-coated pills people are talking about on here."

For Hypokalemia "I started taking this 20 mEq medicine this week. Today, when I tried to take it, I almost choked if it was not for the help of a friend who hit my back and took me from behind to help me. Is it not possible to make it smaller? Or that it has a coating that helps swallow it whole? The people who designed it tried to take it as it seems impossible to be swallowed by a human being. For the record, I'm an adult and I have no trouble swallowing. Please, reformulate this pill."
